Samsung’s new network technology

Samsung Electronics publicized its new network technology, “Mobility Enhancer.” This new network technology is responsible for enhancing its Massive MIMO radios’ beamforming performance up to 30% in a mobile environment. In the 4G and 5G network environment, Mobility Enhancer will play an essential role in advancing mobile experiences for users.

What is the role of Massive MIMO radios?

Massive MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) radios are an essential component of 4G and 5G networks. Also, it delivers a flexible solution to help mobile operators improve capacity and coverage below the 6 GHz spectrum using 3D beamforming to improve data rates.

A walking mobile user experienced a 30% performance boost during a field trial performed at Samsung’s testbed. Samsung is planning to add new tech to its Massive MIMO radios through a software upgrade that will be available for users globally this year.

Use signal processing and AI

Mobility Enhancer uses improved signal processing and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance beamforming accuracy from Samsung’s Massive MIMO unit for users on the go. For instance, with a Mobility Enhancer, 5G consumers could experience boosted performance while walking down the street.

Manage several data channels

Numerous antenna elements used for Massive MIMO could manage several data channels simultaneously for beamforming and enable sending targeted and pin-pointed beams to several devices simultaneously with less interference.

5G-capable telematics control units

At CES 2021, Samsung put array antenna beamforming in the spotlight for millimeter-wave 5G as part of its ongoing work to equip vehicles with 5G-capable telematics control units. The Massive MIMO radios’ portfolio includes units for 2.5 GHz, 3.5 GHz, and Citizens Broadband Radio Service used in the US – recently received OnGo certification.

Expert take

JeongHo Park, Vice President and Head of Advanced System Design Lab, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics, commented: “At Samsung, our goal is to deliver the finest network solutions to mobile operators of all kinds, enabling them to provide their customers with the highest quality, most immersive mobile experience possible.”

He further added, “Mobility Enhancer is one of the key advancements we are working on to innovate mobile networks and help advance 5G performance to the next level.”
